------------------------------------------------------------- As it involves the whole community, and attracting a national and international audience, the event takes place in the Mile 19 Community Centre. The capacity of the centre has been increased substantially with adequately ventilated tents that have been built to withstand all weathers. Other events (the exhibits, syndicate meetings and some networking programmes) will also be hosted in various homes and compounds, the community Government School premises and playgrounds. ------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any special physical or communication need that you think may affect your participation in this meeting, please contact us as soon as possible. We will be delighted to discuss your need with you and arrange to meet it. Remember to also tick the appropriate box on your registration form and append a statement specifying your need. For more information, please visit our accessibility page. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The Meeting programme includes a tour of Mile 19. The Chief or his Regent will lead VIPs and other participants in a short walk with observations through the village to the community Government School and back, on Wednesday November 19, 2008 following the opening ceremony that will start at 9.00 a.m. Other tours will be organized for those who want to explore the community further, into neighboring villages, towns and other touristic sites including farms, hills/mountains and water catchments in the area, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday November 18, 19 & 20, 2008, from 4.00-5.30 p.m. ---------------------------------------------------------------- There will be plenty of room to display posters in and around the community centre, throughout the Meeting. Individuals, groups or organizations and businesses are welcome to share graphic representations of their concerns, programmes/products or creative solutions/recommendations on development issues facing our communities and world. Participants will have ample time during the Meeting to present and discuss their ideas, and distribute handouts. Let us know in advance if you need any special arrangements for your posters and related interventions. Please register your posters here. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Meeting programme includes meals - breakfast, lunch and supper - with some drinks. Menus will soon be available online! For further information, visit our meals policy page. ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Mile 19 Community newsletter, Development Update, will also serve as the Meeting newsletter. It will be available in the Community Centre. Hard and/or electronic copies of the newsletter are sent to all registered participants and well wishers of the Mile 19 Community Leadership Retreat Follow-up Meeting. To submit a story or information in advance, please email the information to mile19@eitdr.org. To submit stories onsite, please email them or bring them on flash memory or floppy disk or a hard copy to the Organizing Committee Secretariat at the Community Centre. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Meeting is programmed to use information communication technologies (ICTs) as much as possible. This is of great interest to the whole community. All participants unable to get seats in the community centre will be able to see and follow the Meeting proceedings, live, on television sets in closed circuit around the centre, in some homes and compounds, the community Government School premises and playgrounds. Some Meeting highlights will be broadcast to the national and international audience and pod cast via the Internet. This website will be updated with papers and presentations from the Meeting. The community perceives enormous opportunities in the use of ICTs, especially the multi-media capabilities that computers can provide, in their homes, the community school, and community council administration. The community council is also elaborating a number development projects with important ICT components to be undertaken within the next three years. These include education initiatives for all, the building and equipping of school classrooms, a community hall and health centre, cable television and satellite Internet connection. In these regards, the community council and several households in the community are keen to spend their own money on ICTs, and proposals from the most appropriately innovative and affordable ICT ideas or products and services in the marketplace from around the world would be very welcome. If you have ICT ideas or products and services you would like to present at the Mile 19 Leadership Retreat Follow-up Meeting, use the registration form to request your exhibits/poster display/ booth space. If for some reason you are unable to attend but would like to have your ICT ideas or products and services presented at the Meeting, call (237) 7795-9438/7766-2395 and/or email mile19@eitdr.org. If you would like to attend the Meeting as Press, call (237) 7795-9438/7766-2395 and/or email mile19@eitdr.org
